This morning we awoke to a mist over the lake and very fine rain but nothing that would stop us heading out. We decided to visit Mount Hypipamee National Park. We had not visited this park during previous trips and as it was only 30 minute drive from Yungaburra it seemed a good thing to do. Mount Hypipamee National Park contained both a spectacular “deep cylindrical volcanic pipe” with a lake at the bottom and a set of beautiful waterfalls, The Dinner Falls. The walk to the falls and volcanic pipe wasn’t too strenuous and we both enjoyed it immensely. The rain had disappeared although the mountains we were driving through were surrounded in cloud. We drove from here to the town of Ravenshoe. Again we had not visited this town on any of our previous trips. On arriving, the first place we found was the Ravenshoe Bakery. Ravenshoe is the highest town in Queensland so we had to stop at the highest bakery in Queensland.J Following our bakery stop we went for a walk along the main street and saw the highest pub in Queensland. It was an enjoyable walk with many of the businesses displaying information boards about the history of the building. Of course I loved it. Leaving Ravenshoe, we saw a sign that said we were now driving on the highest road in Queensland, 1162 metres above sea level. From here we drove to Atherton to do some grocery shopping. Heading back to Yungaburra, Rob dropped me back in the town so I could wander around the galleries and shops without him becoming bored. Once finished, I walked the 3km or so back to the caravan park.
