Wednesday 13th July Innot Hot Springs

We headed north from Rollingstone, calling in at Ingham for Fuel before stopping at “The Big Crab” in Cardwell for morning tea. Unusual morning tea, consisting of cappuccinos, hot chips and a delicious crab cake. Well if you can’t do it at the Big Crab, where can you do it? Continuing on, it was lovely to travel through the banana and cane growing areas and then into the beautiful, lush, hilly area of the lower Atherton Tablelands. Very contented dairy cows everywhere. Heading back inland to Innot Hot Springs the vegetation changed as we drove closer to our destination. Unfortinately we came across a small vehicle accident. We believe there was a malfunction in a vehicle and it caught on fire and the road was blocked by rescue vehicles. The fire brigade and ambulance were there but no police. A woman from another car and caravan was directing traffic off the road. We were lucky and after the fire crew had finished they took over directing traffic and we were allowed through after about a 20 minute stop. We saw a police car heading towards the accident about 5 minutes after we had left. Once we had arrived at Innot Hot Springs Park, we quickly set up and had lunch before heading to the various hot pools in the caravan park. Rob put up the antennae for the TV and while doing this a bloke came over to see if we had reception. He was dressed in a NSW State of Origin top. We knew that the deciding game of the series was on tonight. John (the bloke in the top) had said that there were a few disappointed people in the park because they couldn’t get TV reception and wouldn’t be able to watch the game. John had booked himself and his wife into a pub 40km away for dinner, just so he could watch the game but he really didn’t want to travel that far at night. Rob said he’d be able to get TV using our satellite dish and sure enough Rob organised things. We could have sold tickets!!! Rob and John are currently rugged up sitting outside waiting for the game to begin. Rob has organised to put our other TV outside so more people can come and watch it. Anyway after doing all this the owners of the caravan park came over to everyone and said that they would be opening up the pub, just for tonight so people could go and watch the game. It appears that the pub has been closed for a while but still has the TV and satellite facilities. People from the park were invited to take their own drinks and nibbles to the pub and watch the game. The owners of the park are new and have only taken over a couple of weeks ago. From what everyone has said they are bending over backwards to help people so they might decide it’s worth their while opening up the pub! The hot pools were beautiful and well worth coming here to experience them. (As I write this, a few more people are arriving and bringing more beer and nibbles for Rob, he could be a mess by the end of the night.)

Rob: And Qld won!!, much to the disappointed of John and his mates.
