We had a relatively short drive today from Mount Surprise to Croydon, although it did have its challenges in places. Sections of this road are gradually being upgraded from a single vehicle road to a comfortable double highway so we encountered various road works along the way. It will be great when it is all completed. This area was once a busy goldmining area and the remnants from that time are seen everywhere. We called in to Cumberland Lagoon. Here we saw a large chimney and other relics of once was a thriving gold-mining town. Arriving in Croydon, we quickly set up and then caught up with our friends, Rick and Kerry. They had organised things so we were on the site next to them. I popped into the tourist information centre but ended up staying for over an hour due to the excellent display and information they had about the gold-mining boom time in Croydon and its history. I returned to the caravan and Rick, Kerry and Rob and been in the pool for a swim. At last with the temperature around 34 degrees it was warm enough for a dip. We spent a lovely evening outside watching the sunset and enjoying happy hour with great conversations with our friends.
