We had a short drive from Rollingstone to Ayr, calling in at Townsville to purchase fuel, beer and have a coffee. Rob was happy as diesel was less than $2 a litre for the first time since we left Adelaide. After arriving in Ayr, setting up and having lunch we drove into town to check out the golf course and tourist info centre. Rob booked himself in for a round of golf, tomorrow morning. We drove out to the Burdekin Bridge, locally known as the Silver Link. This important bridge was built in 1957 to replace the old bridge which regularly was under-water during the wet season and meant that north Queensland was cut off for long periods of time. It was an interesting walk, with the pedestrian walkway just below the road level. While on this walk we had a train go across the bridge as well as the constant flow of traffic.
