Saturday 23rd July Lake Tinaroo, Yungaburra

Today was just a beautiful day, weather-wise and activity-wise. We started the day with an invigorating walk around one of the crater lakes, Lake Eacham. The walk around the lake was through the most amazing rainforest and again I could believe how easily the variety of ferns grow in these regions. Maiden Hair ferns, birds-nests and elk horns were everywhere. The undulating walk around the lake was meant to be 3km, although Rob is quite sure that Queensland under-estimate distances and that we covered more than 3km. Anyway we then drove to the other nearby crater lake, Lake Barrine.  We decided that we needed to visit the famous teahouse built in 1927, to have the even more famous scones before doing any other activities.  Following coffee and scones on the deck, Rob helped me put the kayak in on the lake and I went for a most serene and delightful kayak while Rob completed another walk around the crater lake. This one was meant to be 5km but Rob says it was more like 7! Returning to our caravan for lunch, I decided to complete a historical building walk around Yungaburra in the afternoon while Rob stayed back at the van and cleaned the car. We finished the day with a couple of beverages at the historical Yungaburra Hotel. This place was bopping with a group of musicians, most aged around our age or older, playing on the veranda of the pub, while the patrons sipped on their drinks at the outdoor tables.
