Today we decided to circumnavigate Lake Tinaroo in the car or as close as we possibly could do. We set out reasonably early and our first stop on the way was the magnificent Cathedral Fig Tree, located in the dense tropical rainforest. The array of trees, ferns, palms and other plants never ceases to disappoint. From here we continued on towards the lake, stopping at the Mobo Creek Crater walk, for another walk through the forest and then a short walk at Lake Euramoo. We stopped at a beautiful camping spot on the lake called Fong-On Bay camping area. The road in was a little rough but worth it for the picturesque lakeside camping spots. We continued on around the lake stopping at various camping spots to enjoy the views and finally finished at the Tinaroo spillway. There was plenty of water being released and this made for quite a spectacular sight. Returning to Yungaburra, we spent the afternoon visiting the wonderful “Artistree” gallery….(I could have spent up big here) before going on a another lovely walk along the Peterson Creek Walking Trail. Rob was checking out a way to get back to the car without having to backtrack and found a way through that happened to go through some lovely botanical gardens. I was in my element and then we discovered a passionfruit vine with ripe passionfruit, so we picked a few to take with us. We finished the evening off with a walk along the Avenue of Honour, a wonderful memorial to the Australians who served in Afghanistan. This memorial is just adjacent to the caravan park. We’d walk along this during the day but noticed it was beautifully lit up at night.
