The main reason we returned to the lovely park at Mt Surprise was to visit the town of Einasleigh and Copperfield Gorge. Part of the route takes you on a gravel road and could be a little challenging under certain circumstances. We thought it was better to do a day trip rather than trying to tow the van there. The road wasn’t too bad, a little corrugated in places and a couple of river crossings. We arrived at Einasleigh around 11AM and stopped in at the pub for a coffee before exploring Copperfield Gorge. The gorge is very picturesque with high, grey volcanic walls and rocks and cool, crystal clear water as well as a small waterfall. We walked down to the gorge and then realised that we should have worn our bathers and taken a noodle if we wanted to go for a swim in the gorge. We saw some people in the water with noodles. As the walk in, was both quite long and hot we decided that we would have to swim next time we visited this lovely spot. We had lunch at the lovely old pub. We assumed that the only people running the pub was the publican and his partner. By the time we arrived for lunch there would have been at least 12 caravans, plus other vehicles lined up out the front of the pub and many were in the pub to get some lunch. The publican was very efficient and we enjoyed a lovely meal and drink after our walk. Einasleigh is a small town, made up of the pub, the railway station, a non-powered caravan park and aWilkins Foundation few homes. I had checked out a spot near where we crossed the river where I thought I could go kayaking along the Einasleigh River. Luckily, Rob was happy to wait for me while I enjoyed some kayaking. Returning to our caravan park at Mt Surprise, we went to the pool for another enjoyable swim.
